The sign of a premium vehicle. Today, even the most expensive SUVs, cars and trucks are leaving the factory as bulky "blank spaces". A hand-painted Coachline changes the game. It's the custom touch that restores the "soul" mass-production misses. Your car doesn't just look better; it looks like it belongs in a different class. |
Corvette Specialist:
Jack's ultra-fine, hand-painted coachlining perfectly traces the C8 architecture, elevating your Corvette to a 1-of-1 original.
True craftsmanship isn't measured in a single job; it's measured in decades of trust.
Since 1991, "Mr. A"—one of Southern California’s most discerning luxury auto collectors—has brought over 28 personal vehicles to my San Marcos studio.
The portfolio spans from early Acura NSX builds and four custom motorcycles, to his newest Ford Bronco Raptor and this incredible C8 Corvette.
The rule remains unbroken across every single build: zero razor blades on factory paint, zero broken trim clips, and 100% of the paint survives trade-in.
Q: You’ve been painting Mr. A’s collection since 1991. What was the vision for his newest C8?
Jack Herrera: Mr. A is a purist who demands perfection.
Whether a collector brings in a Torch Red Z06, an Arctic White Stingray, or a Competition Yellow E-Ray, the factory lines demand precision.
He knows that factory vinyl decals look flat and cheap against high-gloss clear coats.
Mr. A brought his car to me because he wanted authentic, hand-painted custom coach lining
—a permanent luxury asset engineered specifically to follow and enhance the aggressive mid-engine body lines of the C8 platform.
Q: Corvette owners spend thousands on exhaust systems and carbon fiber aero kits. Why do they settle for vinyl custom coach line stripes?
Jack Herrera: It is the biggest paradox in the automotive world.
A guy will spend $5,000 on a valved exhaust system and $3,000 on a carbon fiber front splitter, but then let a wrap shop put a plastic decal on his paint.
Vinyl is an eraser; it hides the gloss and depth of the car's clear coat. When it inevitably fails, it costs $1,500 just to safely remove the adhesive without burning the factory paint.
My hand-painted custom coach line pinstriping uses traditional dagger brushes and 1-Shot enamel to sit on top of the clear coat like glass.
Q: Why should Corvette owners avoid vinyl and choose custom pinstriping instead?
Jack Herrera: It comes down to the 90% Rule. 90% of those factory and aftermarket vinyl stripes will bake in the Southern California sun, shrink, and peel.
Conversely, 100% of Jack Herrera paint survives trade-in. Using custom coach line stripes elevates the vehicle's resale value rather than destroying it.
It is a permanent bespoke vehicle modification.
Q: The C8 Corvette is incredibly complex with tight panel gaps. How do you handle the prep?
Jack Herrera: That is exactly why high-end collectors bring their cars to me.
I have a strict Zero-Disassembly Rule. Volume wrap shops will tear off your C8’s door panels, front bumpers, and trim pieces to tuck their vinyl edges.
In the process, they break factory clips that will cause rattles for the rest of the car’s life. I don't use a single wrench on the car.
My 50 years of brush control means the paint is laid down surgically, exactly where it belongs, without ever compromising the factory engineering of the Corvette.
Q: How can Southern California Corvette owners commission you for their build?
Jack Herrera: I work strictly by appointment out of my private studio in San Marcos, serving North County San Diego, Temecula and South Orange County.
Because this is a permanent, bespoke modification, we match or contrast your exact factory paint—pulling subtle accent tones from ceramic brake calipers or interior leather stitching.

While my Lake San Marcos studio
is now a destination for the North County elite, my roots run deep in Southern California car culture. |
From the classic Oceanside hot rod scene
to the bespoke coachlines of Rancho Santa Fe. I bring that same 50-year heritage of precision to every vehicle I touch. |
|
The Challenge:
Finding a master who still uses a brush and 1-Shot enamel for a true luxury pinstripe. |
The Success:
"Jack is the last of a dying breed. He applied a signature two-tone coachline to my vintage Rolls-Royce using squirrel-hair brushes and 50 years of muscle memory. You simply cannot get this level of artistry from a vinyl shop." — D.W., Rancho Santa Fe |
