Jack credits much of his success to his father, who introduced him to the world of automotive customization. His father served as the used car manager at Johnson & Son Lincoln-Mercury in Costa Mesa. Having recently purchased his first airbrush, Jack took the opportunity to create a sleek, custom stripe design down the sides of a 1964 Thunderbird. When his father saw the results, he encouraged Jack to come down to the lot and enhance some of the dealership’s used cars. His work caught the attention of other car dealers leading to more opportunities. |

In addition to custom striping, Jack’s father also introduced him to matching colors and re-dying faded vinyl tops and interiors on trade-ins.
When "tape" vinyl stripes were introduced, just as the popularity of imports and 4-cylinder cars was taking off, Jack began applying these stripes to nearly every car on the lot at multiple dealerships. He also started adding stick-on wheel opening moldings and door edge protectors to further enhance the appearance of vehicles. At the height of this period, Jack was striping hundreds of cars every month, solidifying his reputation. |
In 1986 Cars & Stripes mobile hand painted pinstriping service was born.
Jack became the "GO-TO!" pinstriper for car dealers and body shops.

In 1986, after relocating to Carlsbad, Jack embraced the emerging technology of cell phones. He installed one in a new van, which quickly became a hub of activity as calls poured in.
With Jack's father joining the venture, they targeted local dealers and body shops. Clients were impressed by their on-time reliability, precise color matching, and Jack's father's persuasive sales skills. Consequently, Jack was able to hand paint pinstripes on an average of 20 vehicles each day at dealerships and collision centers for decades. Due to the overwhelming demand, Jack took the initiative to train his brother Jeff further expanding their team’s capabilities. |
1991 saw Jack offering mobile computer cut vinyl lettering and graphics.

Jack and Jeff purchased matching vans, which were painted by Scott at Shaw's Autosport.
As demand for lettering services increased, Jack decided to invest in a vinyl cutter and sign software instead of learning to hand paint letters. He outfitted his van with this new system, allowing him to create signs and letters for cars, trucks, vans, and office windows on-site. |

Jack discovered a unique solid color wrapping vinyl from France that was largely unknown in the United States.
He used gloss red and black carbon fiber vinyl on two pace cars for Lexus Carlsbad, which proved to be very successful. As a result, he consistently kept matte black and carbon fiber vinyl in his truck. Jack created numerous designs, focusing on hoods, roofs, and large multi-layered projects using textured and solid colored wraps. Adding in-house print and cut capabilities allowed Jack to accommodate various budgets and deliver a wide range of custom options. |
